About
Carlos Tena González (1993), is a committed musician to the new contemporary music development. After his bachelor's studies in Spain, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel the Master of Arts in Musical Performance guided by Marcus Weiss, in which he achieved the highest possible grades. At the same time, feeling attracted by other visions of music and interpretation, he was able to work with renowned musicians such as Ferenck Rados, Silvia Simionescu, Pierre Stephan, Claude Delangle, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Rudolf Kelterborn, Georges Aperghis, and Frederick Hemke.

His interpretive work has led him to participate in many international festivals. He has been able to play at great halls in Germany, Chile, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal, Estonia, Mexico, Italy, Peru, Cuba, Croatia, France, etc. He also took part in great festivals such as Darmstadt Ferienkurs, Zagreb’s World Saxophone Congress, Klanglab or Mexico’s International University Saxophone Meeting. He also has been invited to perform at the Pierre Boulez Saal, Berlin.


As a soloist, he won the "Schlusskonzerte mit Orchester" contest of the Basel Hochschule in 2018, performing with the Orchestra of the Basel Chamber Academy. That same year he also obtained an honorable mention in the BOG Wettbewerb (Basel). In 2017 and 2019 he was a finalist in the Juventudes Musicales contest of Spain. He also won the 2nd prize at the Concurso Nacional de solistas de Villa de Cox. In turn, he has collaborated with the Juventus Musica Orchestra (Basel), XASAX, and Zone Experimental (Basel).
Involved with new music, he has been able to premiere more than 30 pieces, thus collaborating with composers such as Marko Ciciliani, David Moliner, Hovik Sardaryan, Dorothy Hindmann, Andreas Franck, Jorge Sánchez-Chiong, Marisol Jiménez, among others. With respect to his activity in chamber music, he is a founding member of Klexos Ensemble; Zeugen (saxophone and percussion duo); and Essenz Duo (Saxophone and piano duo).
He has been supported by Thorens Foundation, DOMS Stiftung, Haiku Stiftung, LYRA Stiftung, Hochschule für Musik vom Basel and Stipendienfonds der Dozierenden der Hochschule für Musik. Since 2020, he forms part of the Selmer Artists family.
